Motorbike & Scooter Rental in Pattaya: Prices, Licence Rules and Where to Rent (2026)
Most people searching for a "bike" in Pattaya want a scooter, not a bicycle. This guide used to cover bicycles, but our sister company Pattaya Rent a Bike no longer rents bicycles or e-bikes. So we have rewritten it around what visitors actually ride: automatic scooters.
Where to rent a scooter in Pattaya
Pattaya Rent a Bike rents scooters from our office on Pratumnak (359/119 Moo 12 Nongprue, Pattaya). It is open 9am to 5pm, every day of the year. You collect and return the scooter at the office. We do not deliver scooters, which is how we keep prices low. Book or check availability at pattayarentabike.com.
Which scooter should you choose?
Every model is automatic, so there are no gears to worry about:
Yamaha GT 125: light and easy, good for short trips around town
Yamaha NMAX 155: the most popular all-rounder, comfortable for two
Honda PCX 150: smooth, economical and roomy under the seat
Yamaha Aerox 155: sportier, for experienced riders
How much does it cost?
Scooters start from 200 THB per day. Weekly and monthly rentals work out much cheaper per day. Message us on WhatsApp for the current long-term rate.
What licence do you need?
To ride legally in Thailand you need a motorcycle licence, not just a car licence. That means either:
your home licence with a motorcycle category plus an International Driving Permit that covers motorcycles, or
a Thai motorcycle licence.
Police checkpoints in Pattaya regularly stop foreign riders. Many travel insurance policies also will not cover an accident if you were riding without the right licence.
Deposit and passport: we never keep your passport
At pickup we check your original passport and driving licence, then hand them straight back. We do not hold your passport. We take a 1,000 THB cash deposit, which is refunded when you return the scooter.
Helmets and insurance
Two helmets are included with every rental at no extra cost. Wear one: it is the law, and the fine is the least of your worries.
Every scooter carries Thailand's compulsory government insurance (Por Ror Bor). This covers basic medical costs only. It does not cover damage to the scooter or to other people's property, so check that your travel insurance covers motorcycling.
Tips for riding in Pattaya
Beach Road is one-way and slow-moving, a good place to get comfortable.
Second Road and Sukhumvit are busy. Avoid them until you are confident, and never ride after drinking.
Watch for sand on corners near the beach and for potholes after rain.
Park in marked motorbike bays. Scooters left on the pavement can be removed.
Would a car suit you better?
If you are travelling as a family, carrying luggage or heading out of town, a car is safer and more comfortable. Pattaya Rent a Car has 100+ cars, from economy cars to 7-seat SUVs, with free delivery within 10 km of our office. Staying a month or more? See monthly rentals.
