Pattaya is getting battered
I have been living in Pattaya for nearly 18 years now and never seen Pattaya get as battered as it has over the last 2 week! Pattaya has been slowly deteriorating over the last 18 months, every week things seem to get worst with another well known business closing its doors permanently, another family packing up their belonging to head back up country or another food line with hundreds of Thais queuing up for food and drink but the last two weeks things got even worse. You have all probably seen the images of floods on the internet by now well they were as bad as they looked. No one died but when you are already on your knees and down on your luck, the worst floods that the city has ever seen were not welcomed at all. Take a friend of mine who has a restaurant on Soi Bhuakhao. He has been struggling for the last 18 months to keep his staff employed and keep his doors open. It has been really tough and with no real light at the end of tunnel this restaurant gets completely flooded during the night. Not once but 4 times. What makes the situation so much harder is that either he nor his staff can defend their restaurant from the floods in anyway because we are still under curfew. The first flood took place during the night so he literally had to watch his restaurant fill with water on the CCTV cameras. Pattaya will recovery as it always has, repairing of the roads and beaches is already taking place and we are nearer some potentially better times. At the end of the day you aren’t going to keep people from coming to Pattaya for very long, it’s not the sort of place that people forget very easily but when you do return do not expect to see the Pattaya that you once loved, lots of changes have happened and are continuing to happen
