Thailand and perhaps Pattaya in particular is usually seen as being a very male orientated environment. To a certain extent this is true but with the increasing numbers of working expats and families coming to Pattaya a Western lady will be far from bored once she realises everything that Pattaya has to offer. Pattaya is surrounded by areas of natural beauty that can be easily explored on a leisurely evening stroll or a relaxing drive just outside of the city.
There are a number of options that are available they may appeal to different people and different age groups. There are organised groups, tens of quality restaurants and shops as well as numerous sporting activities that will help ensure you aren’t bored. Below are just 5 suggestions of things that a Western lady can do in Pattaya:
- Pattaya International Ladies Club
Formed in 1987, the Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC) aims to meet the needs of Western ladies moving to an unfamiliar corner of the World away from family and friends. One of the main aims is to help local charities and generally raises around THB1 million per year. The club is also an excellent opportunity to meet new friends and take part in different activities. The club currently has over 200 members from 40 countries all living in and around the Pattaya area. Activities include coffee mornings, golf, lunches, a book club and bowling – plus many more activities. It really is a great place to meet new friends and settle as quickly as possible.
- Sports Clubs
There are a number of different sports clubs in Pattaya offering different activities. For example there is the Fairtex Sports Centre on North Pattaya Road that offers a range of different classes including aerobics, spinning and Muay Thai. Of course if you just want to do your own thing there is the gym, swimming pool and saunas where you can spend your time. If horse riding is more your idea of fun, Horseshoe Point at Mabprachan Lake would be the place for you. There are other activities also on offer including archery and some cultural exhibitions.
Pattaya has a great selection of Thai and International restaurants. Local Thai restaurants can be found all around the city but other fine restaurants include the Mantra on Beach Road, Alibabas, Linda’s as well as the excellent buffets that are available at hotels such as The Hilton.
- Shopping Centres and Markets
Shopping in Pattaya is easy! There are the shopping malls of Mikes, Central Festival and Royal Garden Plaza plus boutique shops all over the city! There is the excellent market at Soi Buakhao. This is held every week on Tuesdays and Fridays and sells quite literally everything! The seafood market at Naklua is also another popular attraction and sells all the day’s freshly caught seafood.
- Massage and Spas
There are lots of upmarket spas and a massage shops in Pattaya such as Health Land on North Pattaya Road and Spa Silvadee on Soi 18 at Naklua. Most of the major hotels also have excellent facilities.
