There is little doubt that one of the best golf courses in Thailand is the Old Course at Siam Country Club in Pattaya. The course was originally opened in 1971 and was designed by I. Izumi. It was also the first privately owned course in Thailand. The course and clubhouse underwent a complete renovation in 2007 making the course what we know today – something that is often described by those who have played it as “outstanding” or “breathtaking”.
The Thailand Open dates back to 1965 and was part of the Asian Tour until 2009. Since then, it joined the fledgling OneAsia Tour in 2010 and the Japan Golf Tour since 2013 and has continued to be part of both events up until the present date. Golf in Thailand is becoming increasing popular and indeed some of the country’s top professionals are playing on both the European and US Tours.
Siam Country Club actually has 3 courses that are all now open. The Old Course (as mentioned), Plantation and the new Waterside Course which opened in 2014. The courses are open to guests but by far and away the easiest way to play the courses is by going with one of the many golfing societies that are around the city. If you were to do this it would mean cheaper green fees and also eliminates the potential problems of having to play with a member.
If you interested in playing Siam Country Club or indeed playing any of the other courses in the area with one of the golf societies around the town, a good person to contact would be Shane Ruddle at Pattaya Rent a Car which is located on the Pratamnak Hill.
